The Supreme Constitutional Court’s general assembly will meet Monday to discuss how to respond to President Mohamed Morsy’s decision to reinstate the People’s Assembly, which the court had dissolved in a ruling last month.
Maher Samy, vice president and spokesperson of the Supreme Constitutional Court, said court head Maher al-Beheiry called for an urgent meeting for the court’s general assembly following Morsy’s decision.
Morsy issued a presidential decree on Sunday, ordering the return of the assembly to exercise its full legislative powers, as stipulated in Article 33 of the Constitutional Declaration, which was issued 30 March last year.
The court had ruled that certain articles of the parliamentary elections law were unconstitutional because they allowed party candidates to vie for seats allocated for independent candidates.
